Dr. Hussein Abdul-Latif was born in Saudi Arabia and grew up in Amman, Jordan. He earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan and completed a three-year pediatric residency there as well. In 1989 Dr. Latif moved to the U.S. and began another pediatric residency at Emory in Atlanta, followed by a pediatric endocrine fellowship.

He practiced in general pediatrics in Alexander City between 1995 and 1999 before joining the UAB Department of Pediatrics  and the endocrinology division.  One of his primary interests is medical education and helping students with critical thinking. On the endocrinology front, his interests are cancer survivors, diabetes camp and helping trans kids. In addition to medicine, Dr. Latif is interested in history, geography and linguistics.  He has co-published a book on Islamic law and Muslim same sex unions and is fluent in Arabic, English and French. In his words, Dr. Latif can “survive in Spanish” and can “decipher Hebrew.”
