Dr. Kara Huls is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Division of Emergency Medicine and the Division of Child Abuse Medicine. She attended Samford University and University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at UAB. After residency, she practiced pediatrics in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she served on clinical faculty for the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.

 

Dr. Huls returned to her hometown of Birmingham, AL in 2018. In additional to her clinical and educational duties in the Children’s of Alabama emergency department, she serves as the Assistant Medical Director of the Pediatric SANE program. She is deeply committed to educating medical professionals, educators, law enforcement officers, and legal professionals about the medical needs of survivors of sexual trauma and the complex ways in which survivors encounter, frame, and recover from their experiences.
