Robert Levin, MD

Bio/ Introduction

Our guest today, Dr. Robert Levin, was born and raised in Birmingham. As he was graduating from the Wharton School of the University Pennsylvania with a degree in economics, he decided he wanted to go to medical school so he returned home to Birmingham and took the required science courses for admission and became a member of the charter class of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He then completed Residency and Chief Residency in Pediatrics at Emory University College of Medicine.

Dr. Levin returned to Birmingham and joined a group practice here for a little under two years before starting his own practice in 1981. He retired this past fall after completing 42 years of private pediatric practice. Today, there are four physicians at Alabama Pediatrics, the practice that he founded.

Dr. Levin has been a perennial selection on the Birmingham Magazine’s Best Physicians in Birmingham list and was voted Best Pediatrician in Birmingham in 2018.

In addition to practicing medicine, he has been involved in the community including being the Past President of the Jefferson County Medical Society and an active member of his synagogue including serving as President of the congregation. He also did a weekly TV health segment focusing on pediatrics for WBRC Channel 6 for 10 years.

Besides sports, his favorite hobby is doing public address announcing. He has been the “Voice of the University Of Alabama Million Dollar Band” since 1991 and an announcer at other programs and sporting events including the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament in Hoover which he has done since 2004.

His talk today will focus on his experience in the private practice of pediatrics for the past 42 years here in Birmingham. Please welcome, Dr. Robert Levin.
