Overview
COVID-19 calls for new/improved strategies of much-needed guidance for pediatricians as they navigate new territory for families who are struggling with trying to keep their families safe and healthy during the height of the pandemic.

Objectives
Upon completion of this live activity, the participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the current COVID-19 vaccine candidates and their mechanisms of action
  2. List COVID vaccination numbers in Alabama, including allocations and number doses administered
  3. Discuss the main challenges children have faced secondary to the COVID-19 pandemic by age group, including incidence of child abuse and worsening youth mental health
  4. Discuss the pathophysiological processes that lead to clinical manifestations and also serve as targets for emerging therapies
  5. Recognize important practice management behaviors specific to pediatrics that are often delayed, ignored, or hidden from view
  6. Summarize the process for child death review in Alabama
  7. Review the differential diagnosis of abnormal uterine bleeding in adolescent girls
  8. Discuss the types and presentation of spinal muscular atrophy in general pediatric practice
  9. Recognize the current epidemiology of HCV infection in the US and globally
  10. Examine techniques to increase the reliability of the screening and follow up in the areas of development, autism, social-emotional concerns and postpartum depression
  11. Identify areas of high liability risk exposure in pediatric practice
