Overview
Pediatricians address a long list of medical and social issues affecting child wellness. With social-emotional issues and negative social determinants of health on the rise, pediatricians must be prepared to work as a team with parents and families, school nurses and the health system at large.  This activity will provide detailed lectures and a panel discussion to educate practicing pediatricians more adequately and comprehensively in order to address these health issues in the face of toxic stressors, both in families they serve and in their own practice.

Objectives
Upon completion of this live activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how attachment-based parenting principles can improve relationships within families
  2. Cite the prevalence and clinical importance of identifying trauma and its presentation in children
  3. Describe the science and research of unconscious bias
  4. Describe the importance of staying well through adolescent well visits
  5. Describe the current status of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic
  6. Identify a new resource in the 2021 Red Book: the Systems-based Treatment Table
  7. Discuss medical and surgical options for the management of childhood obesity
  8. Describe how the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics advocates for policies that impact pediatricians and the children of Alabama
  9. Cite ways to improve communication between pediatricians and local school nurses in order to improve coordination of care
  10. Discuss the epidemiology of bullying

Accreditation

Children's of Alabama designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 10.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
